European highways

7 May 2009 - E-routes are the European counterpart of the American interstate highways. Is this 1950s ideal of interconnecting countries, cultures and people still alive? Can it offer inspiration for current highway designers? kaalenkammen decided to check this out by riding all 5,640 km of European highway E75 during a four weeks journey, from Vardø island (Barentsz Sea) to Sitia (Crete). Public spaces, crossroads, bridges, construction sites et cetera were documented in photos and footage, waitresses and shopkeepers were interviewed and Heesen and Stakelbeek only ate E75 food.
